After the Rain

Yesterday it was raining until the afternoon. As soon as the rain stopped I left my apartment and went for a short walk along the Old Danube.

The Emperor's Pavillion

This pavillion, the Emperor's Pavillion, is located in the Vienna Zoo - which is by the way the oldest zoo in the Western world (it was founded in 1752). The zoo was constructed next to Schönnbrun Palace, and in 1759 Francis I ordered the construction of this breakfast pavillion in the center of the zoo. Today it houses a restaurant.

Instagramers at work

The instagramers Austria community organises a lot of instawalks in many different and interesting places. It is fun to watch the instagramers run around with their cameras and mobile phones looking for good subjects for their photos. By the way, have you already checked out my instgram account?

University of Music and Performing Arts - Library #2

Since 1996 the Unversity of Music and Performing Arts is located in the buildings of the former University of Veterinary Medicine that moved to the 21th district. The former dissecting room was transformed into a reading room.

Some weeks ago I had the opportunity to visit the library of the University of Music and Performing Arts. It was opened in 2016 in its current location on the campus of the University.

Biking & Reading

Reading a book in the autumn sun during a break from riding the bicycle - I think that's a good way to spend time...

Another Walk...

Being a creature of habit, I did another walk along the Old Danube last Saturday...

People Enjoying the View

From the Gloriette in the gardens of Schönbrunn Palace you can enjoy a beautiful view of the town. This time I didn't photograph the view, but the people looking towards the town.

The Gloriette was beautifully reflected in the pond on top of the small hill of the gardens of Schönbrunn Palace last Sunday.

Schönbrunn Palace in The Late Afternoon

Yesterday I took one of my regular walks in the gardens of Schönbrunn Palace. As I love to sleep in on Sundays and then start the day very relaxed, the time frame for my afternoon walks has gotten narrow since we are back to standard time.

Autumnal Mansion

This mansion in the 19th district is completely covered with Virginia creeper. That's how it looked like some days ago. Click here for a photo I took last year.

November Theme Day: Rock And Roll

This sticker on the rear window of a car is the best I could find for today's theme day "Rock and Roll"...

Autumnal Virginia Creeper

Generally I don't like autumn, but I have to admit that the colours of nature are beautiful and eye-catching this time of the year.

End of Season?

After the national holiday last thursday we had a sudden change of weather. It's now really autumnal - mostly cloudy, stormy and rather cold. I think the season of the outdoor areas of the cafés and restaurants will soon be over...

Looks Like a Magic Forest

With the beautiful weather on the national holiday on thursday, a lot of people took a walk in the Kurpark Oberlaa, but fortunately the park is large enough to find spots without anybody. I loved the atmosphere of this small "magic forest".

Sunny Holiday

Yesterday was Austria's National Day which commemorates the declaration of neutrality in 1955. It was a sunny and very warm day, so I took a walk in Kurpark Oberlaa in the 10th district.

Reopening of the Weltmuseum Wien

Tonight the Weltmuseum Wien (formerly the Museum of Ethnology) reopens after three years of reconstruction. The museum is dedicated to the cultural diversity of humankind and strives to document the diverse historical ties between Austria and the world in its collections from all around the globe. The roots of the museum can be tracked back to the year 1806 when the "Imperial and Royal Ethnographic Collection" was established as part of the Imperial Natural History Cabinet after the partial acquisition of the collection of Captain James Cook. I had the privilege to visit the museum two weeks ago, when still a lot of work was underway...

Drag Guided Tour

Yesterday afternoon I participated in a special tour at the Kunsthistorisches Museum: Drag queen and art educator Tiefe Kümmernis did a tour about gender stereotypes. I had expected that mostly young people would take part in this kind of tour, but the group consisted of persons of any age. The drag queen constantly moved, this is the less blurred photo I was able to take.
